Life as a Circus is a bold and heartfelt photographic storytelling campaign in collaboration with TAFTA created by Hello Poppy to celebrate the colour, resilience, humour and humanity of our elders. Through theatrical circus-inspired portraits, the campaign reimagines ageing not as invisibility or decline, but as spectacle, wisdom, survival and joy.
Each elder becomes a character a ringmaster, strongwoman, fortune teller or clown representing the many roles they have carried throughout their lives: caregivers, protectors, providers, healers and storytellers. Behind every costume and portrait is a real story of love, loss, endurance, and community.
Art and portrait painting by the talented Jonathan Mazoue, filmography by Michael Kohne and images captured by acclaimed photographer Brett van Dort, who captures the heart
with dignity, remembrance and celebration. It is a reminder that growing older does not mean becoming smaller. It means carrying a lifetime of stories worth seeing, hearing and honouring.
